A Year of Change
“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” -Harriet Tubman
It's been of year of changes. For Interstate Sound and for me personally. I'm a transplant from Phoenix, AZ via Minneapolis. I've gone from a city of 3.28 million to a town of just under 52,000. While I appreciate the shorter commute, it's a different world in La Crosse, WI. The people here are genuine and compassionate. The landscape has a unique beauty and there is always something to do here. In the past year, I've met some of the best people I've ever met. Some are clients. Some are random people I've met in my travels. The best though, are the members of my crew and my fearless leader, Dana Erickson.
It all started in December of 2017. Dana and I were working on an install in Hutchinson, MN. We'd talk for hours after work and I came to know and respect him as a friend as well as a professional. I also got the opportunity to meet some of the crew. They were full of heart and energy.
I saw the opportunity to breath new life into an amazing company doing what I'm passionate about. There was a lot of potential here. Still is.
Since I officially came on to Interstate Sound in April of 2018, it's been quite a ride. Through a lot of collaboration and hard work, our company has made some significant changes over the past year. Our staff has worked and collaborated tirelessly to effect those changes. Here are some of the highlights:
We've added new inventory tracking and quoting software. It benefits our clients and our business in that we can better assess our resources while giving our clients the best value. They also get an itemized proposal that is easier to read and understand.
We've rearranged our warehouse for a better work flow. This will evolve further as we continue to integrate the new inventory software into our daily warehouse process and as we expand our inventory. We've also begun the process of liquidating some of our unused inventory. Much of it can be found at our sister company, The Gig Store.
We've added new inventory including the Resolume Arena 6 Media Server and three Eiki 10K Flex Projectors. Coming June, we will be adding an extensive inventory of Tyler GT moving light truss. And there are plans to add yet more to our lighting and audio inventory.
Our office has had a face lift. It's located in the same building as our two sister companies, The Gig Store, and Commerical A/V Systems. The Gig Store is scheduled to open on July 1, 2019. The desk for the Interstate Sound is soon to be installed.
We're busier than ever. 2018 was overall a successful year being one of the busiest on record. This year is even busier. We have new exciting opportunities but we are always hungry for more.
The faces of our crew have changed. Some have moved on to the next chapter of their lives. But we've also gained some new faces and we expect to gain yet more in the coming months.
And there's more changes to come as we challenge ourselves with the next stage of our company. We plan to expand our market and our clientele and to add new faces and new gear. We've come a long way in a year and we'll go yet farther still. I wouldn't change this experience for the world.
